CES Vestamager, Periode 1

Hi everyone,

Here a quick recap from our ringing session 🐦

On May 3rd, we completed the first visit to CES Vestamager this season, and it was VERY successful. We had a very busy start, ending up with a total of 60 birds! It is very unusual that we catch so many birds, especially without any fledglings. Some of the birds are highly likely transients moving through the area, and we have probably hit a very good day, but I still have a good feeling about this seasons totals.

The Willow warblers had made their way from Africa and were clearly the most abundant species, both in the nets and singing in the bushes. We also caught some Common whitethroats (first for me this year) and a Lesser whitethroat. A handful of birds were showing signs of breeding, with quite a few male Willow warblers having protruding cloacas (also known as cloacal protrusion, CP) and a few females with eggs ready to be laid.

The recaptures were from 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Just like last year, I have made a Google Photos album where everyone is welcome to share their photos from the ringing sessions. And of course I greatly encourage you to do so! 😊

You will receive information on the next ringing session in a bit.

Best wishes,

Amanda
