On Friday, Olivia, Merit, and I completed the season’s ninth period. I am sorry I didn’t write what day we were ringing. It ended up being a slow morning with only 14 individuals, no recaptures, and mostly 1K birds. We had no birds in the first and last rounds. On round five a total of 9 1K birds of 6 different species, including a Great spotted woodpecker, was hanging in net 3.

I am very happy we have been so fortunate to catch so many woodpeckers this year! We currently have rings on 5 different individuals and we still haven’t caught a breeding female, which has been seen several times in the meeting area flying around with the juveniles.

Merit’s mom was with us the whole morning and have taken some nice pictures of the birds (and us). They had also brought extra coffee and cake, so we were quite happy despite the small number of birds.

 Best wishes,
Amanda
